EsDeeKid West Hollywood Concert reviews
Phantom was wonderful, if a little uneven
"Phantom of the Opera is a moving experience, especially the first half. It struck me with this performance, how uneven the musical is. The truly exciting part is in the first half, including the climatic event right before the intermission. The second half has little mystery left and seems just there to tie up the loose strings on the love triangle. The life and death struggle in the last act should be the climax, but just seems to happen on stage and is overshadowed by all of the action in the first half of the show.
A little warning on the theater: The less expensive seats in the Hobby Center are very high. This is done to keep everyone a reasonable distance from the stage. The height alters the perspective of the show. Small binoculars or opera glasses would be beneficial if you are going to be sitting in those seats. We were able to easily view most of the show except for when action occurred high above the rear of the stage.
EsDeeKid is still a wonderful show. The singing, acting, and music were fabulous as always. And it was a real pleasure to share the magic of a live production with our children who had never seen a broadway musical before. We took our children to this performance and thoroughly enjoyed it."
